Illumina S35 Series 1.3 Pl Mount Lenses

Perhaps some folks are wondering what the latest developments are regarding the Illumina S35 series of 4K/5K high speed primes.
Here is the news from the Luma Tech, Inc. team and the LOMO factory in St. Petersburg.

Following a successful and informative showing of three prototype lenses at NAB in April, and having listened carefully to feedback offered by the many professionals who viewed them at our Las Vegas Hilton suite, Luma Tech and LOMO arrived at final specifications and design elements for all the lenses by late May. The 85mm, 18mm and 25mm units are in full production, as these are the most demanding focal lengths in the range to manufacture. The 35mm & 50mm will be in final build during August/September.

Attached here is a CAD rendering of the 18mm f1.2 / T1.3 S35 lens. Note the uncluttered barrel layout and large, bright markings. Also note the chamfered front sleeve that protects the iris gear, which has been enlarged to function better with servo units. Internally, special materials and the highest quality components, including optical glasses by Schott have been employed to yield the highest performance on both digital and film camera systems.

Lens mass will remain relatively low for state of the art designs. None of the finished units are expected to weigh in over 2.75 Kg. (approx 6 lbs). All lens fronts are a uniform 95mm permitting the use of legacy filter sizes and matte box rings.

Our initial production run has sold well, and we continue to take reservations for lens sets for delivery in the first quarter of 2010.
