Red Pro Prime Updates from Jim Jannard

Roundup of Red Pro Prime lens FAQ by Jim Jannard grabbed from REDUSER.
Below the FAQ is a summary of additional information regarding delivery.

1. RPPs are "RED-centric", which means that the light path is optimized for maximum resolution and consistent illumination, with minimum breathing for the Mysterium sensor family. Patent Pending.
2. T-stop range is 1.8-22.
3. Image diagonal- > 32mm.
4. Extra low dispersion (ELD), Super Low Dispersion (SLD) and anomalous dispersion glass for maximum chromatic aberration correction.
5. Center resolution is greater than 100 (lines pairs/mm). Edge (5K) is greater than 63 (lines pairs/mm). (You will see Wed. how much greater)
6. Close focus from lens front (from sensor) is:
25mm- 4" (12")
35mm- 4" (12")
50mm- 6" (12")
85mm- 18" (24")
100mm- 24" (30")
7. High relative illumination from center to edge of field (5K).
8. Uniform Spectral correction to accommodate any light source.
9. Internal Focus and Unit Focus designs.
10. Consistent 110mm front diameter.
11. RPPs will work with film cameras.

Info Summary by Jim Jannard

- 1st sets get delivered this week.
- Online ordering opens up this week.
- We expect to have the 1st couple of hundred sets out by June.
- RED ONE customers have priority. Those that placed an RPP reservation "way back when" get extra consideration.
- All orders from this time period (NAB week) should be filled by end of Summer or early Fall at the latest.
- Individual lenses available in FALL.
- We are going up through the list by number and asking R1 owners if they have interest in a set of RPPs.
- I think they have one week to decide before losing priority.
- This process will go much faster than the RED ONE or 18-85 zoom did. We are trying to learn from our brief past.
- Something less than $20K for the set of 5. Don't look for massively less.
- When you see the mechanics and performance, the question will likely be "why not more".
- I'll post the final price on Tuesday night before the Reduser party on Wed.
- 50mm, 85mm and 100mm weigh about 2.1kg, 25mm and 35mm weigh about 2.8kg. Similar to a Cooke S4.
- Unit Focus moves the cell inside of the housing (very similar to a Cooke S4). Any lens over 50mm will use "unit focus" and all under will use "internal focus". We have found that breathing characteristics of all these lenses competes with the very best (validated by those that have seen them and demonstrable on Wed).

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
