Cooke Panchro Prime 2.8 Lens Set PDF Print E-mail

Panchro by Cooke

Panchro by Cooke is the latest range of lenses from Cooke Optics, due to ship late in 2009.

What we heard from the industry

While many DPs prefer to specify Cooke lenses to take advantage of the Cooke look as well as the on-set usability and reliable operation, cost has sometimes been a barrier.

In addition, many purchasers of digital cameras like Red also want a full set of lenses at a realistic price.

We also wanted to open up the opportunity to use Cooke lenses in risky situations such as on-board stunt work; lower costs lenses reduce rental and insurance costs.

Our goals for the new lenses

Our goal has been to deliver a smaller, lighter lens which offers the same resolution, optical quality and reliability as the S4/i, but at a lower price. We decided that the lenses should be equally suitable for shooting film and digital images up to and beyond a 4K resolution pipeline.

In addition the lenses include /i Technology, providing lens data per frame for downstream post production.

Like the S4/i lenses, the Panchro’s are designed for motion photography and they don't breathe.

The lenses are one stop slower than the S4/i, as a result they can be smaller and lighter.

All Cooke lenses are colour matched. This means Panchro by Cooke and S4/i lenses can be mixed on a shoot with full confidence that the images will match.

A brand new design

In order to build everything we wanted into the new lenses we needed a brand new design, built on our 100 years of experience of what works for filmmakers. These are 100% Cooke products manufactured by us to our traditional high standards in Leicester, England. Panchro by Cooke is not a modified or re-badged externally-sourced product. You choose Cooke, you get Cooke.

Cooke S5/i T1.4 High Speed Prime Set PDF Print E-mail

Cooke 5/i Prime Lenses, T 1.4 - 18, 25, 32, 40, 50, 65, 75, 100, 135

See in the dark -- with T1.4 speed and a focus ring that illuminates when you need it. External lamps are no longer necessary for the focus puller to see in the dark because this new design incorporates a simple on/off and dimmer to adjust the level of illumination desired on the aperture ring. You now have the visability you need without affecting the light coming into the camera.

Cooke 5/i optics offer superb optical and mechanical performance, control of flare, distortion, veiling glare and spherical aberrations at full aperture. The cam-type focus mechanism allows for smooth focus adjustments. Modular construction increases ease of maintenance and serviceability.

Cooke 5/i Prime Lenses were designed and developed in close technical collaboration with industry professionals. They are colour-matched and compatible with Cooke S4/i, Panchro by Cooke, CXX 15-40 mm T2 S4/i Zoom, 18-100mm T3.0 and 25-250mm T3.7 and the SK4 16mm lenses.

/i Technology

All of our 5/i Prime lenses are supplied with /i Technology, and are designed for all PL mounted professional motion picture film and electronic cameras. /i Technology provides cinematographers and camera operators with vital information on lens setting, focusing distance, aperture and depth-of-field, hyperfocal distance, serial number, owner data, lens type and focal length in both metric and footage measurements. For zoom lenses, the zoom position is displayed.

For companies interested in producing compatible products with /i Technology, the /i protocol is available as a free download: Get the latest /i Communications specs in PDF format under Technical Resources, Free downloads.

Cooke CXX Zoom

Cooke S4/i 15-40mm T2 CXX Zoom Lens

The Cooke zoom lens.
Superior performance, incorporating new technology, /i compatible.

WINNER: CINEC 2006 Technical Award, Bavarian Society for Advancement of Film Technology

"I've been waiting ten years for a lens like this." -- Brant S. Fagan, SOC. Read More

"Just to let you know what a fabulous lens you have made and how much we have been using it. For night work on cranes it saves a lot of messing about changing lenses, and for Steadicam work it has saved us a lot of time by using the various focal lengths in succession. Optical quality is excellent and the assistants have given me no complaints about the handling of the lens." -- Oliver Stapleton, BSC, on location May 2006 shooting a feature film "The Water Horse."

Superior performance and ease of operation is exactly what you expect from Cooke lenses, but the new Cooke S4/i 15-40mm CXX Zoom lens offers attributes beyond great optical and mechanical performance for 35mm/Super 35mm formats:

New Variable Vignetting Stop
Cooke's new Variable Vignetting Stop allows the high speed CXX lens to maintain T2.0 and high resolution throughout the zoom range. This innovative mechanism adjusts automatically. The benefit to you: no ramping and no flare.

Light and Bright
T2, of course. Light and comparable in size to a Cooke S4/i Prime telephoto lens. And like our S4/i telephoto lenses, the CXX zoom offers an extraordinary close focus: Under 7 inches from the front element. And like the Cooke S4/i Primes - no breathing.

Save Time and Money - /i Technology is the Key
Over the next few months, Cooke will introduce a technological breakthrough that will reshape and streamline the systems involved with filmmaking, beginning with the efforts of cinematographers through post production. It will have the potential of saving you significant time and money. Cooke /i technology is the key and the Cooke CXX zoom is the only zoom that has it.

Tip
The CXX Zoom works well with the Arri LMB4 clip-on matte box.

The effect is high resolution with a stunning glow to the highlights -- subtle, but most pronounced wide open at T2, becoming less pronounced as you stop down. Your are currently browsing this site with Internet Explorer 6 (IE6).

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.

Get free downloads for Internet Explorer 7, including recommended updates as they become available. To download Internet Explorer 7 in the language of your choice, please visit the Internet Explorer 7 worldwide page.
